A student, admitted to a reputable US university for a bachelor’s degree, was confident about his F-1 visa application. His father runs a successful business, and they have all the financial backing in place.

However, when the consular officer asked just two questions: the purpose of his trip and what his father does, the student had no reason to believe things wouldn’t go smoothly. Despite having everything lined up, the visa was rejected without any explanation.

In many cases like this, the officer rejects the applicants on section 214(b), which simply means the applicant didn’t prove strong enough ties to their home country. But most people say that a lack of confidence or answer length also plays a part in a visa officer rejecting you.
