The Indian Embassy in the US issued an advisory to the Indians living in United States. It warned them of fraud calls claiming to be from the Indian embassy.

It warned the US Indians not to share any personal information or credit card details under any circumstances. The cyber criminals are likely to call regarding mistakes in passport, immigration form or visa warned the Indian embassy.

It said that cyber criminals were trying to siphon money from Indians on the pretense of correcting the mistakes. It further said that as per current rules, the cyber criminals are threatening to send back Indians or put them in jail, shared the Indian embassy.

If one gets such calls, then inform us immediately, the Embassy said. Apart from Indian citizens in US, many who applied for various visas got such calls, the Embassy revealed.

It made it clear that no official from the Indian Embassy would make any calls asking for personal details. It said that they would communicate only through “@mea.gov.in”.




Indians must be aware of this and be alert, said the Embassy.
