A month after calling India “a great abuser” of trade relations, Donald Trump has once again put his sights on our country, vowing to reciprocate the treatment.
Donald Trump criticized India for imposing the highest tariffs on American products. At a recent rally, he promised that if re-elected in 2024, he would hit back by imposing equal tariffs on Indian imports to the U.S.

This isn’t new for Trump, who previously complained about India’s high taxes on Harley-Davidson motorcycles and other goods during his presidency. His “America First” approach has always focused on reducing trade imbalances.
India and Modi have been on Trump’s mind lately as a few days ago he praised the Indian Prime Minister, calling him “the nicest human being.” While he re-emphasized his strong bond with his Indian friend, Trump’s latest statements signal that trade with India could get tense if he wins.

Republican supporters will welcome this move with open arms as it seems better for the US economy. However, will it be enough to sway the undecided voters as it is not a major issue in this year’s elections, it remains to be seen.
