Recent polls show that Kamala Harris has a slight 2.8-point lead over Trump. This small lead has been consistent in polls since Kamala Harris took over as the Democratic candidate.

However, a new Ipsos-Reuters poll conducted shortly after the debate shows Kamala Harris pulling ahead more, with a 5-point lead over Trump. In this poll, Harris has 47% support, while Trump has 42%.

In key battleground states, the race remains very close. Kamala Harris and Trump are neck-and-neck in states like Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina.

Trump has a narrow lead in Florida and Arizona, states where he has traditionally performed well. Trump also has strong leads in Ohio and Texas, while Kamala Harris is comfortably ahead in Maryland, Colorado, and Virginia.

The debate seems to have positively influenced public opinion of Harris.

Most major polls suggest that Kamala Harris was seen as the debate winner. Even some Republican pollsters have warned that this could spell trouble for Trump.

Voters, including independents and some Republicans, generally felt Kamala Harris outperformed Trump in the debate.

Notably, 14% of Republicans thought Kamala Harris won, and half of independent voters agreed, which marks a shift from the earlier June debate where most people viewed Trump as the winner.

Both candidates are focusing their efforts on these critical states, where even small changes in voter support could be decisive in the 2024 US Presidential elections.
