US Profiting From Fueling Hate Against Indians

Hate against Indians is rising in the US and it is evident from recent social media activity. The micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter) is reportedly fueling this hate towards the community.

According to a new US think tank report, anti-Indian posts on X skyrocketed between December 22 and January 3. Two major events are believed to have triggered it– Sriram Krishnan’s White House appointment and Vivek Ramaswamy’s rant about mediocrity.

Even the Indian-origin Congressman Shri Thanedar warned about rising Hinduphobia on the platform, but nothing changed. The real reason behind this is the Indian businessmen showing support for the H-1B program, which has become a villain for MAGA supporters.

The report reveals a deeper problem, it is not just aimed at the Indian immigrant but anyone who looks Hindu, Sikh, or otherwise is the prime target.

Racist slurs like “curry” and “pajeet” are being used freely online. Posts “warning” about Indian “invasion” and mocking their hygiene are also used to spread hate against the whole community.

Shockingly, these posts are making money as X rewards engagement, not ethics. The anti-Indian sentiment is being turned to make a profit, fuelling further divide in the society.
