From fresh grads on OPT to seniors on H-1B, the doors are slamming shut for Indian techies in the US.
According to a report, entry-level hiring at major US tech firms has dropped over 50% since 2019, and more than 80% of “entry-level” jobs now demand at least two years’ experience.

Even top students from Stanford and Berkeley are now applying for internships after graduation, not full-time roles.
H-1B workers feel the recession in jobs as well. With AI replacing junior coders, companies prefer one senior engineer over three fresh hires. No one wants to invest time in training a new recruit, especially when they will need visa paperwork.

As per the media report, in 2021, fresh grads made up 15% of Big Tech hires, as compared to just 7% today. The average age of new tech hires has increased by three years, showing a clear preference for experienced workers.
This hits Indian techies hardest as no job means no H-1B visa after graduation. Many hide their status, work unpaid, or rush for postgrad, not for education, but for survival.
