Not every detective story can pull off the thrill and suspense and this week’s release “Detective Sherdil” exactly proves that, with considerable promotional buzz and a promising premise, the film ends up being a messy blend of outdated tropes, weak storytelling, and poor execution.
Directed by Ravi Chhabriya with a stellar cast which includes actors like Diljit Dosanjh, Boman Irani, Chunky Panday, Banita Sandhu and Diana Penty, “Detective Sherdil”, is currently streaming on Zee5, but this movie fails to deliver what it promised.

Diljit plays the role of the protagonist Detective Sherdil, a humorous and witty investigator who is fun loving, but the comedy has to land well in order to make the audience laugh. The movie is categorized as a dark comedy but fails to give the audience witty laughter.
The cinematography is also not up to the mark, but the background score seems to try too hard to be quirky.

Even in moments that are meant to be tense or clever, the film falls flat, often relying on loud humor to keep the story moving.
OTT platforms have been home to some great detective dramas in recent times, but Detective Sherdil doesn’t even come close to that standard.
