Dragon OTT

Dragon, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, is set to premiere on Netflix on March 21 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam.

The Tamil film, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, and Kayadu Lohar, had a fantastic box office run, even surpassing Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025 so far.

The Tamil blockbuster, which also did well in Telugu, was released in Hindi version in the Northern belts on March 14. Pradeep also funnily announced it on social media that Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir should beware as he is coming to rule.

However, the same Hindi version is arriving on Netflix just seven days later, on March 21. This move makes no sense.

Why would anyone pay for a theater ticket when they can watch it for free on OTT within a week? The makers’ decision has sparked confusion.

Some believe they wanted to test the Hindi market and possibly renegotiate a better Netflix deal based on its performance. Unfortunately, the Hindi release was a washout, making this gamble pointless.

However, Dragon remains a huge success in Tamil and Telugu. Now, all eyes are on its Netflix release to see if the film can win over the OTT audience.

While the content worked well in South Indian markets, its appeal to Hindi viewers will be interesting to track.

Releasing the Hindi version in theaters so close to the OTT date feels like a poor decision. The film’s team may have expected better results, but in the end, it looks like a move that backfired.
