Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper had been in news over the controversy created by the Institute of Chartered Accountants India. The Mirzapur creator Puneet Krishna is behind this show starring Manav Kaul and Tillotama Shome, Shubhrajyoti Barat, Naina Sareen, Shweta Basu, Priyanka Das and others. It was released on Netflix on 18 July and has gained much viewership since then in spite of the backlash from ICAI. The show doesn’t even directly mention ICAI but still they are after it.

ICAI had filed a complaint against the show and claimed that the show misguided CA aspirants by showing a CA Topper in the wrong light. Actually in the show a CA topper has to face a financial crunch due to recession in the bank. An otherwise honest man Tribhuvan Mishra takes up the part time job of a gigolo in secret. ICAI believes that by showing such a fate for a CA topper and using terms associated to the profession like services rendered and credit and debit in the wrong light, they are misdirecting the expectations of students.
But how fair is the censoring of the show? Series makers are expected to present stories with a unique experience for audiences. ICAI’s efforts to take the show down from Netflix are utterly pointless now as the show has been streaming for almost half a month. If what they believe is true, the damage has already been done! If all professions were to scrutinise a film or series made around them we would not have Munna Bhai MBBS, Rocket Singh, Jolly LLB, Kabir Singh and many more.
