Kesari 2 OTT

It’s been almost two months since Kesari Chapter 2 was released on the big screen. The film is now streaming on JioHotstar and has surprisingly landed itself in a controversy after its OTT premiere.

Notably, an FIR has been filed against the film’s producers at Bidhannagar South police station under multiple sections. The legal issue has emerged from the film’s content, where the makers have allegedly distorted Bengal’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

The situation has taken a worse turn as a certain sequence has reportedly misrepresented freedom fighters Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh, referring to them as Khudiram Singh and Birendra Kumar. The characters have been portrayed as residents of Amritsar.

Trinamool Congress is already criticizing the film, and the party leader Kunal Ghosh also addressed the same in a tweet posted on June 19, 2025. Kunal has demanded an apology and correction from Akshay Kumar for the distortion of facts.

While Akshay and the producers are yet to respond to the ongoing issue, it is surprising to see a controversy happening suddenly after a film has been released on OTT.

The controversy won’t help the film much, except for bringing more viewership for JioHotstar. But the biggest question right now is how the censor board ignored the error that has led to the controversy.
