Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal on Prime Video

The Malayalam movie ‘Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal’ has now been released on Prime Video and with some good reviews, it is having some harsh criticisms as well.

Audience are saying the movie is demeaning Hindu culture by glorifying the relationship between a brother and a sister. The movie tries to ruin both romance and sibling love.

But the two characters concerned are cousins who grew up apart and never met each other. When their family has a reunion, they meet as strangers. Both were alone and never understood the cousin bond. It can be seen in the way that they navigated through the new found chemistry in a different way.

While some viewers are condemning it, there are others who are saying that the movie in no way tried to glorify a relationship between cousins but showed what might happen. It has been more vigorously explored in international stories like ‘Game Of Thrones’ but these stories do not face the same criticism. Indian movies should be given a certain amount of creative liberty too.

But in the meantime, filmmakers need to keep it in mind that these taboo topics nother audiences and they should try to not offend viewers with these themes deliberately.
