Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is now available on OTT, and it was released through Netflix on the occasion of Holi on March 14, 2025. The film was originally a flop at the box office.
There is hope that the film will win some appreciation at least on OTT for the efforts Kangana has put into her performance and direction.

The initial reviews from the OTT audience are mixed. People whose political ideologies match with Kangana also do not seem to be happy, as she has shown Indira Gandhi as a shrewd and powerful politician.
On the other hand, people who don’t like Kangana have also slammed the film, feeling she might have shown Indira Gandhi in a negative light.

Even her fans feel that Kangana is wasting her talent by doing these politically inclined films. She is a fine actress who can do films like Queen or Tanu Weds Manu, which gave her stardom and popularity. She needs to make films where people judge her performance and not her character.
Reportedly, Rs. 80 crores were paid by Netflix for Emergency, which is too high for a film that didn’t do well in theaters.

While many deserving films are ignored by OTT platforms, a film like Emergency, which was neither appreciated by critics nor the audience, gets such lucrative deals.
Kangana might have recovered her investment with this Netflix deal, but it remains to be seen whether the viewership will be high enough to make it a profitable affair for the streaming giant.
