Mahabharat: Biggest Risk, Audience Won’t Forgive?

Remember Aamir Khan talking about Mahabharat? We thought he forgot about it since the actor was busy with other projects like Sitaare Zameen Par.

However, the actor is back with a grand statement regarding Mahabharat and if reports are to be believed, the project is all set to begin by August 2025.

The shocking part? Aamir admitted that he will be casting only fresh faces in the epic drama.

To add to this, the actor also hinted that Mahabharat might mark his final cinematic endeavour. Aamir reportedly said: “Once I’ve done it, I might feel there’s nothing more I can do after that”.

His open admiration for Lord Krishna, a role he hinted at possibly playing himself, has also sparked controversy. Many may argue that portraying such a revered figure comes with immense responsibility.

Of course, there is potential for backlash if not done with utmost sensitivity.

In Aamir’s own words, “And you know, the Mahabharat is very dangerous. It’s again a story which is in my blood. No one can do anything about it. I need to tell it. So I’m starting work on it.”

The actor has also hinted at plans for multiple films by drawing inspiration from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings.

The latter was an epic drama that continues to draw the audiences, irrespective of generations even now. So, is Aamir Khan going to make the Mahabharat on the same grounds? Let’s see.

Of course, there’s no denying that this project is too much of a risk. Unless well made, this film suffers to lose not just money but also reputation for Aamir Khan.

Let’s be clear: Public may have forgiven him for a badly made Laal Singh Chaddha. However, the same cannot be said for the Mahabharat.
