Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic: Rajamouli Insulted?

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are working together again, this time on a biopic about the Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke.

While fans are excited to see the PK duo back, something else has added buzz to this project — the strong support from Phalke’s own grandson.

Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli’s similar project is facing criticism for not involving the family.

Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, recently revealed that Aamir Khan and Hirani’s team had been in touch with him for the past three years.

Assistant producer Hindukush Bhardwaj regularly met him, gathered stories and asked for inputs. Pusalkar said, “You guys are working honestly; you go ahead. I have no objection.”

The script has been in the works for over four years, with Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and two other writers involved. The film will start after Aamir finishes Sitaare Zameen Par.

In the same interview, Pusalkar clearly said that no one from SS Rajamouli’s team ever reached out.

This includes the team behind Made in India, which is said to star Jr NTR as Phalke. “If someone is making a film on Phalke ji, the family should be talked to. It’s we who know the real stories,” he added.

Biopics are not just films — they tell real stories. When the family of the person being portrayed is ignored, the film risks losing truth and emotion.

Aamir Khan’s approach of involving the family, asking questions and building trust feels respectful and responsible. Rajamouli’s silence in this case stands out for all the wrong reasons.

Aamir Khan and Hirani have taken the slower but more honest route — and it’s paying off.

They’ve earned the support of the family, something no script can fake. When it comes to telling the story of the man who gave birth to Indian cinema, that support means everything.
