Ajay Devgn’s Chauhaan is already drawing comparisons with Dhurandhar, but a new report about the film’s script could make those comparisons even more interesting. The Neeraj Yadav directorial was announced as an action entertainer set in Kashmir. Ajay Devgn plays an Army officer amid militant unrest.

Its first look, featuring the line “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai,” immediately triggered strong reactions online. That’s because many viewers compared its political tone and presentation to Dhurandhar.

Now, according to the information doing the rounds, Chauhaan could be heading in an even more intense direction. The story was reportedly written by Yadav around five years ago as a relatively moderate political thriller.

However, following the enormous conversation around Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, the makers are said to be reworking the material, with the political backdrop becoming considerably more confrontational.

Interestingly, the film has already faced controversy even before its release. The Kshatriya Parishad objected to what it described as the appropriation of Chauhan/Rajput history for contemporary political narratives. They argued that historical identities should not be reduced to modern communal binaries. The makers have not publicly endorsed those allegations.

If the reported rewrite is accurate, Chauhaan may now be leaning further into precisely the kind of politically charged cinema that has become a major talking point in Bollywood. Dhurandhar appears to have demonstrated how much attention an aggressively political action thriller can generate, and the industry seems increasingly interested in that space.

That also explains the growing online chatter about a possible new trend: films using political conflict, national security and communal tensions not merely as background elements, but as the central engine of mass entertainment. Supporters may see this as a move towards harder-hitting, contemporary storytelling, while critics are already worried about films intensifying existing social divisions.

With the film currently scheduled for October 1, 2027, there is still plenty of time for the makers to reshape its tone before audiences see the finished product.
