Akshay Kumar is set to reunite with Priyadarshan for another film, but unlike their usual comic entertainers, this one comes with a wildlife conservation angle.
Akshay will reportedly play a character inspired by legendary hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett. The character begins as a hunter and tracker who learns to understand the forest, kills man-eating tigers and leopards threatening his village. As everyone knows, he eventually turns into an advocate for wildlife conservation after witnessing a lot of poaching and deforestation.
On paper, the concept certainly sounds different. But the announcement also raises an obvious question: will audiences trust Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan to pull it off?
The duo has delivered memorable films in the past, but their collaboration does not carry the same excitement it once did. Their latest film, Bhooth Bangla, managed to emerge as a hit, but the film was widely seen as falling short of its potential. Now, Haiwaan is gearing up for release, yet the film appears to be arriving with very little buzz.
If it opens poorly next week, it could further weaken the confidence around Akshay Kumar‘s upcoming projects.
Akshay and Priyadarshan may have the history, but nostalgia alone cannot sell another collaboration. After a series of underwhelming films, audiences need a reason to believe that this reunion can deliver something genuinely entertaining and visually convincing. The concept has potential. The real challenge will be execution.
