Akshay Kumar, often called Bollywood’s king of remakes, is teaming up with Saif Ali Khan for another remake titled Haiwaan. The film, directed by Priyadarshan, is the official Hindi version of the 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam.
According to reports, the team recently shot a massive five-night action sequence near Churchgate. The cat-and-mouse chase, involving over 30 cars and 100 junior artists, was choreographed by action director Stunt Silva and filmed across Churchgate, BKC, and other Mumbai locations.
Akshay has completed his scenes and left for Dubai to resume Welcome to the Jungle, while Saif is finishing the final nine days of shooting in Mumbai. The film is currently in its last schedule and nearing completion.
Haiwaan follows a visually impaired man with sharp senses of smell and hearing, played by Saif, who takes on Akshay’s antagonist. The plot stays close to Oppam, raising concerns among South Indian fans about it being a scene-by-scene remake.
In Oppam, Mohanlal’s character chases the villain through a traffic jam, using his heightened senses to detect danger. Fans believe this iconic chase will be recreated almost identically in Haiwaan.
Since Oppam was a massive hit, expectations are high. Many question why audiences would watch a copy when the original still holds strong appeal. The remake’s success depends on how Priyadarshan reshapes the story or introduces new conflicts.
Fans also point out that Akshay’s fast-paced filming habits often affect his performances. They hope this time he delivers a sincere and powerful role worthy of the original. The final verdict will only come once Haiwaan hits theatres.
