Amid the positive reviews, one celebrity appreciation sparked unexpected backlash online. An actress was criticised for publicly praising Yami’s performance and the overall film.

The actress was Alia Bhatt. She shared an Instagram story applauding Yami’s performance and revealed that the two had spoken over a call, during which she extended her best wishes.

In her post, Alia called Yami a “Queen” and praised her artistry and passion in Haq. She described the performance as one of her all time favourite female roles and expressed excitement for Yami’s future projects.

While the message appeared supportive, social media users questioned Alia’s intentions. Many accused her of having an ulterior motive behind publicly endorsing the film.

The controversy began on Reddit, where a user questioned why Alia was trying to get close to Yami. The post referenced the alleged Filmfare best actress controversy from 2024 involving the two.

Other users suggested that after Dhurandhar’s success, Alia was indirectly trying to connect with filmmaker Aditya Dhar. He is Yami’s husband and the director associated with the project.

Some trolls also criticised Alia for staying silent after Dhurandhar’s release. They claimed her praise appeared only when it was convenient and less controversial.

What started as an Instagram appreciation post soon turned into a heated online debate. The situation quickly escalated into a comparison between the two actresses.

Despite the backlash, several users defended Alia. They argued that appreciating a fellow actor’s talent should not be turned into a controversy.
