Akshay’s Sequel Trailer Talk: Cringe & Outdated

The trailer of Suneel Darshan’s Andaaz 2, a sequel to Akshay Kumar’s Andaaz, is finally out. While Suneel’s return as a filmmaker is commendable, the trailer does not inspire much hope for a nostalgic revival. The visuals lack the emotional pull of the original, despite having a few appealing moments from the Nadeem-Shravan soundtrack.

Running nearly four minutes long, the trailer feels more like a patchwork of disconnected scenes and songs. It ends up revealing almost the entire film, and this style of trailer-making feels outdated and uninspiring. It’s clear the director was aiming for drama, but it ends up looking chaotic and confusing.

Casting newcomers can be a bold and refreshing choice—but only when the performances are solid. In Andaaz 2, the lead actor Aayush Kumar, and actresses Aakaisha and Natasha Fernandez, fail to bring any spark. Their acting is unconvincing, and the lack of chemistry between them makes the romantic subplot feel forced and awkward.

The storyline of Andaaz 2 appears to borrow heavily from typical romantic dramas, focusing on struggles in the music industry and personal relationships. Unfortunately, the film seems to lack the emotional weight and depth needed to make an impact. It neither elevates the genre nor offers anything innovative.

Many netizens are also questioning the purpose behind making a sequel to a successful film. The general opinion is that the makers are simply trying to cash in on nostalgia, rather than creating something that surpasses the original. The criticism is especially harsh toward the casting of unfamiliar faces with little on-screen presence.

For viewers unfamiliar with the 2003 original, Andaaz 2 offers very little apart from its music. With just 11 days left before release, there has been no major marketing push or buzz. The release date is set for August 8, 2025, but the outlook isn’t bright.

Interestingly, Rajiv Rai’s comeback film Zora is also releasing the same day, but like Andaaz 2, it hasn’t generated any hype. If things don’t change, both films might struggle at the box office, possibly marking a dry weekend in theaters. Still, miracles do happen—so let’s wait and see if either film can pull off a surprise.
