Salman Khan and Aamir Khan starrer Andaz Apna Apna is a celebrated, cult comedy in Bollywood. The film was recently re-released in the theatres with the expectations of some great numbers.
Unfortunately, its box office results were very poor. Yes, it seems like the audience didn’t like the yesteryear comic timings as the film. It has disappointed the distributors and exhibitors yet again by its poor performance.
There’s some theory about what led to the cult classic’s disastrous performance at the box office.
Rajkumar Santoshi directorial, co-starring Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal, was released without adequate promotions. Later, the Pahalgam tragedy also led to a restricted premiere with the absence of the leading actors during the events.
As a result, the film was able to collect only Rs. 85 lakhs net revenue in the opening weekend of its re-release. The shocking fact? This collection was much lower than the film’s opening weekend business during the original release in 1994. It won’t be wrong to call it a flop again!
Andaz Apna Apna has reportedly ended its first week with a total of over Rs. 1 crore net revenue.
It seems the magic of Andaz Apna Apna didn’t quite translate to today’s audience. Despite its cult status, the film’s re-release flopped. This, once again, highlights how nostalgia alone isn’t enough to guarantee box office success in the market.
