Film critic Anupama Chopra faced heavy online abuse after criticising Dhurandhar. The backlash escalated to the point where she removed her review from the internet. Now, after sharing her views on the recently released Ikkis, the online attacks have resurfaced.
Anupama posted on social media that she found Ikkis to be a good film. She described it as a war film that pushes viewers to think about the real cost of conflict and the human impact beyond the battlefield.
She praised Sriram Raghavan for presenting courage and patriotism with empathy and compassion. She also applauded Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat for their performances and highlighted Dharmendra for his emotional screen presence.
Anupama encouraged audiences to watch the film. However, the same group that attacked her for criticising Dhurandhar reacted angrily to her positive response to Ikkis and her recommendation to viewers.
Several users accused her of hypocrisy, claiming she supported one nationalist film while criticising another. Some even labelled her anti national for appreciating a film that speaks about brotherhood between two nations.
Others went further and claimed her career was over, saying her relevance was limited to elite circles. Some suggested she should stop reviewing films altogether, questioning her credibility and intent as a film journalist.
The issue is not about liking one film over another. That remains a personal choice. What raises concern is the intensity of online harassment faced by a film critic for expressing her professional opinion.
