Filmmaker Anil Sharma has confirmed that Apne 2 has been permanently shelved after the death of Dharmendra. He said it is impossible to continue without the legendary actor at the heart of the story.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025 at the age of 89 due to age related health issues. His absence has left an emotional gap in the industry as people remember his long and dedicated journey in cinema.
Apne was a sports drama that showcased a father guiding his two sons, played by Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, in boxing. The film became a huge success with strong emotional storytelling and the Deol family sharing the screen.
Apne 2 was announced in 2020 with plans to bring together three generations of the Deols including Karan Deol. The pre production work was completed and roles were finalised by the team.
After Dharmendra’s sudden passing, Anil Sharma said the sequel cannot happen because the film was built around Dharamji. He expressed that some dreams remain incomplete when the main pillar is lost.
Dharmendra delivered more than 300 films over seven decades. His charm and screen presence made him one of the most respected stars in India. His loss is deeply felt within and beyond the industry.
People now hope the Deol family continues their journey with strength as they carry forward the legacy of an actor who shaped many years of Hindi cinema.
