Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have finally returned to the big screen with their new film Bhooth Bangla and the opening day numbers are officially out now. The horror comedy released on April 17 and it managed to earn around 12.25 crore nett on its first day. When you add the 3.50 crore earned from paid previews on Thursday the total opening haul reaches 15.75 crore nett in India.
While these numbers are decent for a comedy film the movie was made on a big budget of approximately 120 crore. This means the film needs to perform consistently well over the next few weeks to recover its costs. As per producers, India gross for the first day is around 21 crore which shows that the Akshay Priyadarshan brand still has a decent pull even in theaters.
Despite mixed reviews, trade experts are noticing a positive trend for the movie because the occupancy increased significantly during the evening and night shows. Even though the morning started slow with only 10% attendance the word of mouth helped it jump to 30% by the end of the day.
Because of this growth a good jump is expected on Saturday and Sunday. Since the family audience usually comes out in large numbers during the weekend the film has a good chance to see a massive spike in collections. If the comedy continues to connect with viewers then Bhooth Bangla could become a solid hit at the box office.
