Akshay Kumar returned to the horror comedy space with Bhooth Bangla, which released in theatres on April 17, 2026. The film opened with decent buzz but received mixed reviews from audiences.
Many viewers appreciated the humour in the first half. However, the second half did not match the same energy, leading to an overall mixed response.
Despite this, Bhooth Bangla is considered a passable entertainer. It works as a one-time watch and may appeal more to families and children due to its comedy elements.
At the box office, the film collected around Rs. 60 crore in its first weekend. Collections dropped by nearly 50% on Monday, which is expected after the opening rush.
The film is now heading towards an estimated Rs. 150 crore net in India. This indicates a decent theatrical run despite mixed word of mouth.
The next big question is about its OTT release. According to reports, Netflix has acquired the digital rights of the film.
Based on current trends, the OTT release is expected around eight weeks after the theatrical release. This places the tentative streaming date around June 4 or 5, 2026.
It remains to be seen how the film performs on OTT. Audience reception on streaming platforms could differ from the theatrical response.
