Will SRK, Ranbir, Alia, Deepika Explode in 2026?

If 2025 appeared unusually quiet at the Hindi box office, the absence of Bollywood’s biggest stars played a major role. The lack of large scale releases reduced overall excitement and limited theatrical footfalls across the year.

Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan stayed away from cinema releases. These actors usually guarantee strong openings. Their collective absence highlighted how much mainstream Bollywood still relies on star power.

Industry narratives described the phase as a strategic pause. However, it also revealed the risk of overdependence on a few familiar faces to drive momentum and audience interest.

That lull now appears temporary. 2026 is shaping up as a high impact year filled with big budgets, ambitious storytelling and popular collaborations returning to the big screen.

Shah Rukh Khan is set to return with King. The film reunites him with Siddharth Anand and Deepika Padukone. It also marks Suhana Khan’s theatrical launch, drawing both curiosity and close attention.

Ranbir Kapoor follows Animal with two contrasting projects. Ramayana: Part One focuses on scale and mythology, while Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War leans on emotion and grandeur. Expectations are high and risks remain equally strong.

Alia Bhatt’s upcoming slate reflects a clear move toward scale driven cinema. She leads YRF’s female led spy film Alpha and also appears in Love & War, strengthening her commercial positioning.

Deepika Padukone maintained box office relevance through Kalki 2898 AD despite limited appearances. Her extended role in King ensures her continued presence in mainstream cinema.

Kareena Kapoor Khan has chosen a quieter path. She is prioritising Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra over conventional star driven projects, reinforcing her preference for content focused roles.

Whether these films revive theatrical numbers or simply reaffirm star power is yet to be seen. What is certain is that 2026 will feature familiar faces, though genuine surprises may still be limited.
