Bollywood witnessed a rare and worrying moment at the box office as three films failed badly on the same day. Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, One Two Cha Cha Chaa, and Rahu Ketu released on January 16, 2026, but none managed to connect with audiences.
Among the three, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos performed marginally better despite a weak start. Starring Vir Das and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the spy comedy earned around Rs 1.25 crore on Day 1, falling short of expectations.
The film’s A certificate, mixed to negative reviews, and poor word of mouth limited its reach. Despite quirky promotions and a well known production banner, the opening is being seen as a major underperformance for a film linked to Aamir Khan.
Rahu Ketu faced an even tougher situation at the box office. The comedy drama starring Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma collected close to Rs 1 crore on its opening day, which was only slightly better than early trade estimates.
With limited buzz and average audience response, the film remains on uncertain ground. Strong growth over the weekend is crucial, or it risks losing screens quickly once bigger releases hit theatres.
The biggest shock of the day came from One Two Cha Cha Chaa. The Ashutosh Rana starrer opened to a disappointing Rs 10 to 15 lakh, effectively sealing its fate within the first day of release.
Poor reviews, minimal promotion, and extremely low footfalls suggest the film may not even cross Rs 1 crore in its lifetime run. It is already being counted among the weakest theatrical openings of the year.
Three films releasing on the same day and all failing badly underline a growing concern for Bollywood. Without strong content or solid star pull, attracting audiences to theatres continues to remain a major challenge.
