U/A for Dark, Hard-Hitting Films

Of late, we are occasionally witnessing a lot of change in the attitude of Central Board of Film Certification towards films that are bold and loud in content while addressing subtle and sensitive issues. CBFC is taking a liberal stance on such films.

Amitabh Bachan and Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Pink’, and Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Akira’ were certified with ‘A’. ‘Pink’ was passed with just four verbal cuts, in spite of the fact that it has some bold scenes showing abuse on women. All such visuals were retained by CBFC as the chief, Pehlaj Nihalani feels that children who are going to be adults need to know the perils awaiting them. Hence finally an U/A for ‘Pink’ and ‘Akira’.

The makers of the two movies are happy as these movies could have been easily certified with ‘A’ if not for the contemporary approach on the issues related to women abuse and their objectification. This is indeed a welcome change and filmmakers would be happier if CBFC has changed for good to be a certification agency instead of censorship.
