Chhaava BO: Unexpected Response in Hyderabad

Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is turning out to be more than just a hit Bollywood film. The historical action drama based on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is making waves at the box office but what’s surprising is its stranglehold on South India especially Hyderabad.

With no Telugu film in sight, it’s making the most of the empty market. Now with Mahashivratri around the corner, it’s gearing up for another big push.

Chhaava opened with a bang, collecting ₹121.43 crore in 3 days and ₹219.75 crore in 1 week.

It has already crossed ₹400 crore worldwide and is now eyeing ₹500 crore. This makes it Vicky Kaushal’s biggest hit, in top 20 highest grossing Hindi films of all time.

Hyderabad usually favors Telugu cinema but Chhaava has found an unexpected love. Laila and Brahma Anandam failed so local audience was looking for something engaging and Chhaava filled that gap.

Action, emotions and word of mouth is drawing in even Hindi speaking audience, giving it an extended run in the city.

Mahashivratri might bring Chhaava one of its highest day in Hyderabad with strong advance bookings for evening shows.

But its dominance will be tested when Sundeep Kishan’s Mazaka releases on 26th Feb. If the Telugu film connects with audience, Chhaava’s run could slow down.

Few Bollywood films do well in South without being pan India releases but Chhaava has broken the rule. Its success in Hyderabad shows that good content can travel beyond borders.

With Mahashivratri and no competition in immediate future, the film is in a strong position but for how long?
