A recent video has gone viral on the internet, where school children dressed in their uniforms can be seen in a cinema hall chanting praises for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during a show of ‘Chhaava’.
The children can be seen with their hands on their chest, fists closed, chanting slogans like ‘Jai Bhawani, Veer Shivaji’, with some elders, presumably their teachers, also present with them.
While many have come forward to praise this as an attempt to make children aware of their history, some have also questioned the violation of CBFC guidelines regarding the film.
‘Chhaava’ is rated UA 16+, meaning that parental guidance is recommended for children below 16 to watch the film.
But the children in the video seem much younger than that, leading to many raising questions regarding the same.
Many also questioned the nationwide acceptance of violence in ‘Chhaava’ when filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino have to face significant cuts from the CBFC before their films even see the light of day in theatres.
The debate on this issue is still going as hot as ever, with no significant clarification coming from either the CBFC or the theatre administration.
