Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming Spirit cannot help but be the center of almost every new controversy while dragging along a new celebrity just for the sake of it.
This time the dispute started when actress Tamannaah Bhatia accidentally liked a viral video of Deepika Padukone, and the internet sparked widespread speculation about whether Tamannaah was taking sides in the Deepika vs. Sandeep Vanga debate.
After Deepika exited Spirit over disagreements about pay and scheduling, Sandeep Vanga accused someone—widely believed to be her—of leaking the film’s script in a cryptic social media post.
Amidst this tension, a video clip of Deepika’s interview for her 2020 film Chhapaak resurfaced online.
In the clip, Deepika addressed a journalist’s insinuation about her husband, Ranveer Singh, possibly funding the film. Deepika responded by asserting that she invested in the film with money she earned herself.
The video in question highlighted issues like the gender pay gap and misogyny, similar to the speculations due to which Deepika was rumored to have exited Spirit.
Netizens were quick to notice that Tamannaah Bhatia had liked the said video and interpreted this as a subtle show of support for Deepika amid the Spirit controversy.
However, Tamannaah clarified the situation on her Instagram story, stating, “Can Instagram please figure out how it likes pages on its own because random people are making this news, and I really have work to do?”
She explained that the ‘like’ was simply an algorithmic glitch and quickly distanced herself from the controversy afterward.
This incident highlights the challenges celebrities face online when a single social interaction can be interpreted by the audience however they see fit; Tamannaah might’ve just agreed with the particular message Deepika shared in the video clip and had no idea she’d be dragged into a bigger controversy.
But after all, an unintended social interaction between celebrities has no meaning online unless it sparks new speculations and narratives.
As conversations around Spirit continue, Tamannaah’s experience serves as a reminder of how easily a single online interaction—intentional or not—can spiral into controversy.
