Following the success of horror films in the last two years, Dharma Productions has decided to explore the genre further. Karan Johar’s banner is developing three new projects, aiming for theatrical releases by next year.

The first project is expected to be a thriller with horror elements. It will feature two female leads, with Sini Shetty and Reem Shaikh reportedly part of the cast. Ashish R. Shukla is directing the film, which has already completed a month long schedule.

The third project is a remake of the Odia film Bou Buttu Bhutta. Along with these, a fourth film is also in development. The script for this project is currently being prepared by the makers.

According to an insider who spoke to Variety India, these films are being produced on controlled budgets. The idea is to explore the full potential of the horror genre without heavy financial risks.

Karan Johar has earlier attempted horror with films like Kaal and Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship. Trade experts believe that his current move comes at the right time, considering the growing popularity of horror among audiences.

Some online users have suggested that the makers should maintain proper gaps between releases. This could help sustain audience interest and avoid fatigue. Dharma Productions has faced multiple setbacks in recent times.

During this phase, focusing on strong content over large scale production may prove beneficial. Films like Munjya and Stree 2 have shown that content driven horror can succeed. It remains to be seen if these projects deliver similar results.
