Should YRF Learn from Dhurandhar? Box Office Says, No!

Dhurandhar is once again trending online. After War 2 underperformed, some viewers suggest that the YRF Spy Universe should adopt the same approach as Ranveer Singh’s film. They believe it could deliver better results than recent outings.

But this comparison does not hold in reality. The Spy Universe operates on a much larger scale with massive budgets and top stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Replicating Ranveer’s formula in such a setup is nearly impossible.

Big stars demand a different energy from the audience. People expect constant entertainment, high-performing screen presence and no dull moments when these names appear. A darker narrative often clashes with the high-voltage image fans want.

Outside the Spy Universe, only a few films with similar themes record strong openings. War opened with Rs 53 crores. Pathaan went even bigger. Even Tiger 3, despite mixed talk, earned Rs 40 crores on day one.

Dhurandhar is unlikely to match those numbers. It needs strong word-of-mouth to grow through the weekend and sustain for multiple weeks with steady double-digit collections to justify its cost.

The film’s tone is darker, something YRF generally avoids. Their audience base prefers cleaner, family-friendly thrillers without too much intensity. This makes Dhurandhar a riskier bet than earlier projects.

Ranveer Singh’s film has generated attention, but experts believe the late trailer release might affect opening day turnout. Many trade predictions point to Rs 16–20 crores. Now the question is whether Dhurandhar proves them wrong, or performs as expected.
