Can Shock Value Save OTT Type Content in Theaters?

Madhur Bhandarkar is known for films like Chandni Bar, Fashion, and Page 3. His work often delves into the scandalous realities behind seemingly glamorous facades.

Continuing this trend, Bhandarkar had announced his new project titled Wives of Bollywood, last year.

In an exclusive report by Rahul Raut on PeepingMoon.com, it was revealed that Fatima Sana Shaikh is all set to lead Bhandarkar’s upcoming film.

Shaikh, renowned for her standout performances in Dangal, Ludo, Thar, and Sam Bahadur, will portray the wife of a Bollywood star in this showbiz drama.

Bhandarkar is currently assembling an ensemble cast, and Shaikh is among the first prominent actors to come on board. Talks with other actors are in various stages of negotiation.

The film is scheduled to go on floors in August, with a theatrical release planned for early 2026.

First announced in October 2024, Wives of Bollywood promises to be an explosive thriller drama exploring the unseen, glamorous lives of Bollywood star-wives.

Audiences can expect the story to be laced with scandal, gossip, and power struggles, true to Bhandarkar’s signature style.

However, a couple of years ago, Netflix released Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, a series that also explored the lives of Bollywood wives behind the scenes.

Knowing Bhandarkar’s storytelling approach, this film will likely be more intense and controversial. But the real question is- will audiences be willing to pay to watch it in theatres?

Only time will tell. If Bhandarkar stays true to his style and delivers the shock value he’s known for, it might just become a box office success.
