Trailer Talk: Caste, Love & Friendship’s Soulful Tale

Neeraj Ghaywan’s powerful new film Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, is all set to release in theatres on 26 September 2025.

The film has already made waves internationally with selections at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 (TIFF) and Cannes. This marks Ghaywan’s return to Cannes, a decade after his award-winning debut Masaan premiered there.

The trailer, released by Dharma Productions, offers a deeply emotional glimpse into the story. Sharing it with the caption, “Presenting a piece of our heart, hoping it finds a home in yours,” the studio confirmed the theatrical release date.

Homebound follows the journey of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village. Vishal Jethwa plays Chandan Kumar and Ishaan Khatter plays Mohammed Shoaib Ali. Both dream of becoming police officers to escape poverty and discrimination.

The film explores themes like caste-based prejudice, religious divides, youth unemployment, and fragile friendships. These issues are presented through an honest and heart-wrenching lens.

Adding to the film’s global attention, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has joined as executive producer.

Audiences are especially excited to see Janhvi Kapoor reunite with her debut co-star Ishaan Khatter. Many have praised her for taking on a more grounded, impactful role, far from the usual glamorous portrayals.

Critics and fans alike hope Homebound will not only touch hearts but also spark important conversations about the society we live in.
