Hrithik Roshan Playing It Safe? Fans Want More

Javed Jaffrey recently said that Bollywood has three types of performers. According to him, there is a star, an actor and a star actor. Hrithik Roshan proved very early that he belonged to the rare star actor category.

Hrithik shocked the industry with his debut film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000. The film created massive excitement and is often seen as one of Bollywood’s biggest star making debuts.

After the huge success of his first film, Hrithik had already signed several projects. Films like Mission Kashmir and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham also performed well and strengthened his growing stardom.

However, his career soon faced a difficult phase. Films like Mujhse Dosti Karoge! and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon received criticism and failed to impress audiences.

During this period, Hrithik shifted focus from being only a star to proving his acting ability. That change resulted in Koi… Mil Gaya, a film that became a turning point in his career.

The film showed his potential to bring emotional depth to mainstream cinema. In an industry that often celebrates hero worship, Hrithik delivered a heartfelt performance that made audiences respect him as both a star and an actor.

He soon became an inspiration for many young viewers. With Lakshya he inspired a generation, while Krrish turned him into a superhero for children.

Hrithik also redefined style and charisma with Dhoom 2. His screen presence and dance skills helped him build a unique identity among Bollywood’s leading actors.

The reason Hrithik became such a huge star was largely due to his bold film choices. He was often called a game changer because he experimented with different characters and avoided predictable decisions.

He preferred doing only one film at a time so that he could fully dedicate himself to each role. This approach allowed him to deliver performances that felt detailed and emotionally powerful.

From playing Emperor Akbar in Jodhaa Akbar to portraying a quadriplegic in Guzaarish, he created memorable characters. At that time, it seemed that there were no limits to his career growth.

In the 2010s, Hrithik appeared in only eight films, but most of them performed well at the box office. His selective approach helped maintain his reputation as a dependable movie star.

Between 2011 and 2014, he delivered consecutive successes with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath, Krrish 3 and Bang Bang.

He later appeared in films like Kaabil and Super 30 before delivering the blockbuster War. Each time, the star in him was balanced by an actor willing to take risks.

However, in the 2020s, staying relevant has become more challenging. What once looked like fearless experimentation now appears to be a carefully managed superstar image.

Many fans believe Hrithik’s unique strength always came from his choices. Recently, some feel he is playing it safe instead of exploring bold roles.

After more than two decades in cinema, remaining a top leading actor is never easy. Yet audiences who grew up watching his performances hope to see that fearless actor return.

An entire generation admired his dance, screen presence and emotional performances. Seeing him mostly in standard action driven roles now feels disappointing for some fans.

Fans continue to hope that Hrithik the actor will take centre stage again. While being a superstar matters, many still miss the performer who once changed the industry with bold and inspiring choices.
