Jaat Chopped by CBFC: 40% Scenes Shockingly Cut?

Sunny Deol’s Jaat, directed by Gopichand Malineni, has recently been cleared by the CBFC for release with a U/A 16+ certificate. The film’s runtime has been revealed as 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 31 seconds. However, CBFC also demanded multiple cuts to certain sequences.

The word Madarjaad was replaced with Nikamma and Besharmo and b****c*** with another word. A similar step was taken for a sequence where the word Bharat was replaced with Hamara and Local was used instead of Central.

Several scenes have been censored at the same time, including a hand gesture and the e-cigarette visuals. The duration of certain scenes was also trimmed by 40%, starting with a sequence where a lady police inspector is humiliated and a male inspector molests a female.

A violent shot of a body being cut has been trimmed by 30%, and more than ten scenes have been replaced with CGI.

The latter involves other violent sequences and seemingly controversial moments such as Indian currency notes below the feet of the crowd, Jesus Christ statue in a church, throat cutting, thumb cutting, mishandling of a baby, and more.

Although scenes of around two minutes and six seconds have been modified on the request of the CBFC, they have been replaced with appropriate sequences with a runtime of one 1 minute and 37 seconds.

While Jaat is aimed at impressing the single-screen audience, the advance booking numbers have not been up to the mark due to low buzz, delayed tactics, and poor marketing.

However, there is still some hope left in terms of on-spot booking at mass pockets and a rise in collections during the weekend if the word-of-mouth is extremely positive. Sunny Deol desperately needs a double-digit opening on Day 1 due to the hype generated after the success of Gadar 2.

Let’s wait and see if Jaat can live up to the expectations and create a new and bigger record than the ones made by Gadar 2.
