Average Acting – Record Opening

It was most awaited debut movie of the year and now, the verdict is out. Dhadak has got a record opening. In fact, it is record-breaking for a debutant.

At an opening of over 8.5 Cr, Dhadak has set a new record for a debut. The previous best was 7.7 Cr by the movie Student Of The Year. It marked the debut of current top actress Alia Bhatt. Other big names part of it were Varun Dhawan, and Siddharth Malhotra. Incidentally, that movie was also produced on Dharma Productions banner.

While the opening is heartening, the critical appreciation is mixed. Janhvi has got average reviews, at best. Her screen presence has been liked but in acting from many felt she was okay. The comparison with the original didn’t help the cause.

Dhadak is expected to be an easy hit commercially. The high expectations are turning into footfalls. The real test would begin with the second film.

On a related note, while Dhadak is highest debut opening for Bollywood, the real record holder across the industries is Akhil. His first film Akhil is still the all-time record for debut in India.
