Janhvi’s 60% Kissing Scene Cut? CBFC Becomes Joke

The Central Board of Film Certification is in the news again for its edits in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Just before the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor film’s release, reports revealed that a kissing scene was cut down by 60%.

The unusual percentage sparked online jokes about how the board measures intimacy. Many users on social media mocked the phrasing, questioning how screen kissing could possibly be calculated in decimals or percentages.

The cut list for Shashank Khaitan’s rom-com had only two edits. These included muting the word “guard,” said to be used in a derogatory context, and censoring more than half of the lip-lock sequence.

The standard anti-alcohol disclaimer was also added as required. After these changes, the film received a U/A 13+ certificate with a runtime of 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 45 seconds.

Though the cuts may seem minor, the “60% reduction” created bigger debates. Critics argue that instead of adapting to audience maturity, the board is still caught up in outdated moral policing that damages its credibility.

Fans pointed out that such edits often draw more attention than the actual scenes. The focus shifts from cinema to censorship, raising questions about how the CBFC approaches creative freedom in Bollywood today.

Despite the controversy, excitement around the film is high with advance bookings already strong. But the issue highlights the long-running conflict between filmmakers and a censor board seen as more concerned with optics than storytelling.
