John Abraham is currently working on a biopic directed by Rohit Shetty titled Maria IPS. The makers claim the film carries strong emotional depth along with intense drama.
John Abraham is said to have immersed himself deeply into the role. He will share screen space with Tamannaah Bhatia, who plays his better half. Her role is expected to be significant and impactful.
The film is based on the life of Rakesh Maria, who served as the Deputy Commissioner Police Traffic in 1993. He played a key role in solving the Bombay serial blasts case.
His courage also helped crack the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin blasts case. He arrested six accused, including a couple who planted explosive devices inside taxis.
With nationalist films gaining popularity, this appears to be the right time for such a project. Rohit Shetty plans to complete the film in the first half of the year before moving on to Golmaal 5.
Maria IPS is expected to release towards the end of 2026. The film reportedly has only one cameo, but it is expected to be a major one. Currently, indoor shooting is underway in Mumbai.
