The Koffee Ends, The Karan Show Goes On

For years, celebrity gossip, awkward questions and headline-making confessions came with a familiar backdrop: Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan. With the show reportedly coming to an end after its ninth season, Johar appears to be preparing for life after Koffee without actually leaving the celebrity-chat space.

The filmmaker is reportedly developing a new talk-show concept, with YouTube being considered as a possible platform. But this is not being positioned as a straightforward replacement for Koffee With Karan. The bigger idea is said to be creating a fresh show and a new intellectual property that Johar can build under his own banner.

That could be an interesting shift. Koffee With Karan already has a strong identity and a long history with Bollywood celebrities. Starting from scratch gives Johar the opportunity to experiment with the format, the kind of guests he brings in and even the way celebrity conversations are presented to a digital audience.

For someone who made an entire genre of celebrity conversations his own, walking away from Koffee may not necessarily mean walking away from the conversation. Karan Johar seems to be preparing for his next cup.
