The Kerala Story 2 is heading towards another controversial release on February 27. With mixed reactions already surrounding the film, new official details regarding its censor clearance have now come out.
Given the nature of the content, many expected the film to receive an Adult rating from the CBFC. However, the censor board has cleared the film with a 16+ rating instead.
Along with the certification, the CBFC has ordered 16 cuts in the final version. Nearly 50 percent of the rape and kissing visuals have reportedly been removed from the film.
A few additional words and sequences were also cut. After these changes, the film’s final runtime stands at 2 hours and 11 minutes.
The CBFC has further instructed the makers to include a two-minute disclaimer. The disclaimer must carry a voiceover stating that the movie is based on true events.
As The Kerala Story 2 deals with the depiction of forced religious conversions in Kerala, the matter reached the Kerala High Court. The court has ordered a special screening before the film’s official release.
During the hearing, it was observed that the film presents Kerala in a negative light. This conclusion was drawn as the makers claim that the scenes shown are inspired by true events.
The court noted that such portrayal could have a negative impact on the state. As a result, a screening has been planned before allowing the film’s release in Kerala.
