Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has strongly criticised the upcoming film Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. During a media interaction in Kochi, Kerala, he described the film as “bullshit propaganda.” His remarks have reignited debate around the controversial sequel.
Anurag Kashyap was in Kochi to attend the Filmfare Awards when he addressed questions about the film. He drew comparisons with The Kerala Story, which released in 2023 and had also faced intense public scrutiny and political debate.
Commenting on a scene from the trailer involving beef, he questioned its authenticity. He remarked that such portrayal appeared exaggerated and unrealistic. According to him, several elements in the film seem designed to provoke division rather than encourage meaningful discussion.
He further alleged that the makers were driven primarily by financial motives. He suggested that divisive themes are sometimes used to generate controversy and box office attention. His comments have triggered sharp reactions on social media.
The film is also facing legal challenges. The Kerala High Court recently issued notices to the producers after a petition questioned the CBFC’s approval. The plea argues that the teaser and trailer promote harmful stereotypes.
The petition claims the film depicts women from different Indian states being manipulated into religious conversion and later pushed towards terrorism. It argues that such portrayals are misleadingly linked to Kerala and may disturb communal harmony.
Social media critics have also highlighted slogans such as “Ab sahenge nahin… ladenge.” They argue that such lines could inflame tensions and potentially violate Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, which bars content that threatens public order.
Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Shah, Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond continues the narrative introduced in The Kerala Story. The film claims to be inspired by true events and is scheduled for theatrical release on February 27, 2026.
