Spreading Hate on Screen, Dark Allegations Off Screen?

As The Kerala Story 2 prepares for its theatrical release on 27 February 2026, an old controversy has resurfaced online. Social media users have begun sharing past reports involving the film’s producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The timing has reignited debate around the film and its makers.

The discussion gained momentum after an old interview of Iranian actress Elnaaz Norouzi from 2018 began circulating again. In that interview, she accused Vipul Amrutlal Shah of repeated sexual harassment during auditions. These auditions were for his 2018 film Namaste England.

According to a Mid-Day article dated 19 October 2018, Elnaaz described a three month ordeal. She alleged that Vipul repeatedly called her to his office under the pretext of auditions and script discussions. She claimed these meetings involved inappropriate behaviour.

Elnaaz stated that she faced unwanted physical advances during these visits. She alleged that on one occasion, Vipul tried to kiss her. She said she pushed him away and confronted him directly.

In another instance, Elnaaz claimed that when she asked for a narration of the film’s story, she was invited to his room. She alleged that he grabbed her and dragged her, which made her reconsider working on the project. These claims were detailed in her interview.

She further alleged that Vipul arranged multiple unnecessary auditions and delayed her contract. According to her, this was done to pressure her and weaken her confidence. She also claimed he discouraged her from accepting other projects.

Elnaaz said she was asked to reject opportunities like Netflix’s Sacred Games. She alleged she was misled with claims that the series would require nude scenes. These allegations added to the seriousness of her account.

The actress explained why she did not file a formal complaint. As a foreign national, she said she feared visa complications and lack of support from authorities. She also stated that Vipul was a powerful figure in the industry.

These allegations are being revisited now because Vipul produced 2023’s The Kerala Story. Social media users pointed out the contrast between the film’s theme and the accusations made against him. Many called out what they saw as irony.

Several users accused the producer of targeting a Muslim actress while backing a film that critics said vilified Muslim men. Others questioned the credibility of filmmakers speaking on women’s issues while facing such allegations themselves.

The Kerala Story faced heavy criticism in 2023. Critics accused it of presenting misleading data and promoting fear around one religion. The portrayal of women and extremist narratives also drew strong backlash.

With The Kerala Story 2 set for release, public scrutiny has intensified. Many are questioning whether the sequel will differ in approach. The resurfacing allegations have added another layer of controversy ahead of its release.
