King Controversy: History Repeats, Another 1000 Cr Hit?

Shah Rukh Khan’s King has landed itself in trouble after the release of the first song, Tu Mil Jaaye. Notably, the song features Deepika Padukone wearing a saffron coloured outfit, which has now created controversy, resulting in a particular section calling for a boycott of the film.

BJP MLA Ravinder Negi has expressed his criticism of the outfit in a video that is going viral. He alleged that it has been an intentional effort to target Sanatan Dharm and recalled a similar thing that happened when Pathaan was released.

Ravinder claimed that saffron colour is a symbol of Sanatan Dharm in India and questioned why people are trying to mock Sanatan Dharm. Notably, Ravinder issued a warning to SRK, stating that if the sequence is not removed from the film, it will lead to a nationwide boycott of the film.

As of now, the makers or SRK himself have not responded to the situation that has emerged. However, netizens started reacting immediately on social media, with most of them stating that it has been a habit of Bollywood films to make fun of a particular religion.

On the other hand, a majority claimed that this was an unnecessary debate that was being created for attention. People alleged that the same thing happened at the time of Pathaan, and everyone went silent at a particular point.

A few others additionally clarified that a colour cannot be owned by anyone and that even if saffron represents Sanatan Dharm, there is no official rule made yet in India for the same thing. The same people stated that the outfit cannot be considered disrespectful since whatever Deepika is wearing is a normal outfit and not a bikini.

Amid all of this, SRK’s fans responded by saying that they are happy and satisfied since someone else has now taken the responsibility to promote the film by creating negativity about it. They even said with conviction that King is now confirmed to be a blockbuster.

Notably, Pathaan grossed Rs. 1,000 crores at the box office alongside taking a big opening, which many people claimed was a result of the controversy that emerged from the song, Besharam Rang. While similar chances are looking right now for King, let’s wait and see if it will break more records this time.
