Loveyapa promised to be all of that and more: a flowery, modern premise; the clash between cultures and the age-old contradiction between love and societal expectations.
The ensemble cast, including Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, had the engaging possibility of modern romantic interludes. But somewhere between ideas and execution, there was no sustenance; thus the spark fizzled.
Where the screenplay is full of promise, the execution never rises above tediousness. The reviewers pointed out that characterizations are weak and, thus, unable to make any impact in order for the viewer to connect with such.
The chemistry between the leads required in a romantic tale is jarring, while the moments aiming to melt our hearts instead evoke boredom.
Critics also said that the film to deal with some serious issues like maybe inter-faith relationships or pressures of arranged marriages, but fell under the lure of softer storytelling. And this really does not come across as an eye-opener; rather it is plain repetitive and less impactful.
Overall, The film has good intent but sleeps on execution. It could have evoked something beyond yet another ordinary one-cupid-in-a-hat love story if only the writing were sharper and the direction stronger with a plausible performance.
Thus, it becomes a story with heart in a sense, yet lacks that depth and execution which would allow the audience any real emotion to unfold. It has so much promise but alas, just does not deliver.
