New Comedy Maa Behen: Interesting but BO Doubtful?

Suresh Triveni, who earlier delivered the much-loved Tumhari Sulu, returns with a new comedy-drama titled Maa Behen. The film stars Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, while Shardul Bhardwaj, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan also play important roles.

The script is penned by Suresh Triveni with Pooja Tolani, and the project is backed by Abundantia Entertainment. The title Maa Behen instantly stands out with its quirky, colloquial touch, suggesting a mix of humour and emotional drama that feels rooted and relatable.

In today’s theatrical space, big spectacles dominate while mid-scale films often struggle to attract footfall. Madhuri Dixit, despite her iconic stature, has not seen consistent theatrical pull recently. Triptii Dimri is gaining fame after Animal, but she is still building her presence.

Suresh Triveni is admired for slice-of-life narratives with emotional depth, yet converting such stories into box office success is difficult. Maa Behen could find stronger traction on streaming platforms where character-driven stories and unique concepts are often welcomed.

At the box office, the film faces stiff competition from larger-than-life content. Unless it generates strong word-of-mouth, it risks being overlooked. Its journey may reveal if today’s Hindi audience is ready for mid-budget comedies in theatres or only on OTT.
