Media Nonsense: Warning on Samosa, Promote Gutkha

The hypocrisy of TV news channels never fails to surprise viewers. A recent incident is going viral on social media where a well known media channel has again breached all bounds of shame.

While running a report on Delhi’s new policy to mandate a warning with fatty and high sugar foods, Anjana Om Kashyap was seen heavily preaching on this move and coming to its support. However, at the very same instant, her channel was running brand campaigns from their official sponsor Vimal Elaichi, a well known brand that sells tobacco and other harmful products.

While the move from Delhi government is receiving a mixed response; warning labels like cigarettes on the city’s favourite snacks like Samosa and Jalebi seems like a stretch to many. The move by the Health Ministry aims to fight obesity but many netizens pointed out that it is fatphobic on a basic level.

On top of that, people are angry at the likes of Anjana Om Kashyap who portray a fake concern for the masses. While at the same time it is clear that they are only concerned with appeasing those in power and the industrialists to gain profits themselves.
