Taapsee Pannu, once celebrated for her versatility in the movies like “Pink”, “Thappad”, has now become the unfortunate “Taapsee Panauti” after a series of box office flops. Her latest ventures, such as the underperforming “Dunki” with Shah Rukh Khan and the lackluster sequel “Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba,” have not been able to strike a chord with the audience.
Pannu’s film choices have been questioned more and more, and her upcoming action-thriller, “Gandhari,” is no exception.
Now, that is not an unrecognized name either-Kanika Dhillon is the writer of this film, and she has always been under sharp criticism for projects that have been both critically and commercially panned. So, that raises eyebrows immediately on seeing her name.
And “Dunki” is another such case in which her writing is to be seen. Pannu and Dhillon have been called a “disastrous combination,” their past collaborations being less than desirable.
“Gandhari” is the story of a mother who will go to any lengths to save her kidnapped child, and the plot holds much promise but may get derailed because of the reputations of the lead pair.
Pannu goes through some intense training for her role, and Dhillon promises a very intense narrative, so the skepticism level is high. Will “Gandhari” be able to break the cycle of disappointments with Pannu and Dhillon, or will it affirm their bad luck?
Scheduled to release later this year, “Gandhari” stands at a crossroads. The film has much to prove, and only time will reveal whether Pannu and Dhillon can overcome the weight of their past failures.
