The film is expected to go on floors in February 2026. It marks Yami’s first collaboration with Colour Yellow Productions and her first full length venture into the horror comedy genre. The project signals a clear shift from her recent serious roles.

After the courtroom drama Haq, Nayi Naveli reflects a conscious change in tone for the actor. Sources say Yami was eager to explore lighter material while retaining emotional depth and narrative purpose.

The film reportedly mixes humour with intrigue instead of relying only on gags. It aims to deliver entertainment while maintaining a strong story core that connects with audiences beyond surface level comedy.

The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, known for Laapataa Ladies (2024) and Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024). This marks his second collaboration with Aanand L Rai after the upcoming romantic drama Nakhrewaalii.

The story draws heavily from Indian folklore and mythology, an area that has gained wider audience interest in recent years. These elements are expected to shape the film’s atmosphere and narrative tone.

Nayi Naveli will be directed by Balaji Mohan, best known for the Tamil film Maari (2015). This project marks his Hindi directorial debut and a new phase in his filmmaking journey.

While the script is said to be finalised, the film is currently in pre production. Casting for the remaining ensemble is ongoing, with more announcements expected in the coming weeks.
