The recent release of Nadaaniyan, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, has sparked a sizzling controversy in Bollywood. Although much speculation was made, the movie received lukewarm welcomes from the audience and critics, with the majority labeling it as “mindless” and not original.
Hrithik Roshan’s mother, Pinkie Roshan, fueled the fire by supporting a vicious review left on social media. She stated, “Totally go with this funny review, though I loved Ibrahim Ali Khan,” showing her displeasure with the film but appreciation of Ibrahim’s acting.
This casual comment from a member of a Bollywood family has raised eyebrows and prompted discussion about film industry dynamics.
The criticism of Nadaaniyan refers to a broader issue in Bollywood: failure to develop new content. A number have been let down by the movie’s cliched plot and terrible acting, revealing a decline in the quality of romantic comedies.
The involvement of such great figures as Karan Johar and the encouragement by Netflix is only meant to compound the disappointment and shock.
While Pinkie Roshan’s comment is seemingly a personal opinion, it reflects a sentiment within the industry that there needs to be better storytelling.
The incident illustrates how even within the close-knit Bollywood community, there are divergent opinions and criticisms that at times lead to publicized discord.
